Sat Sang – Introduction

The doorway to spiritual education

Satsang is a home based programme to encourage people to get together and learn the instructions of Lord Krishna through the teachings of Srila Prabhupada.

Srila Prabhupada said “Temple is a place of learning” and one can get this learning from the devotees of the temple by inviting them at their homes or offices also.

The whole programme will last for about one and half hours maximum.

Program highlights:-

  • Arati to Lord Krishna
  • Kirtans
  • Chanting of Lords Holy Names
  • Spiritual discussions on Bhagavad-gita , Bhagavatam and various vedic scriptures
  • Distributing Krishna prasadam to the devotees

It is a great fortune for people to have devotees visit their home to conduct such programme right at their home .Practicing these principles at home uplifts the standard of living of mankind. The society, nation and world at large will flourish both materially and spiritually. This is Iskcon’s major initiative in providing spiritual education to the society at large. In this regard Srila Prabhupada said “Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says that there are 2 kinds of devotees. One is called Bhajananandi and the other is Ghoshtyanandi. Bhajananandi devotees are those who are happy in performing their bhajana or worship of the Lord. This is very much desirable but Prahlad Maharaj says better are the Ghostyanandi devotees who not only perform their bhajana or worship but also try to benefit others as well by preaching Krishna consciousness and elevating them in spiritual life. They want to see more people become happier in their life by practising Krishna Consciousness apart from themselves being happy(Ref. SB 7.9.44 ). Srila Prabhupada the Founder-Acharya of Iskcon has many times said that this is the primary purpose of Iskcon or Hare Krishna Movement in cities and towns across the world. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu also says in kali-yuga it is not so desirable to perform spiritual practice alone . It is better to perform spiritual practice congregationally hence it is called sankirtan and not just kirtan.

SAT SANG For those who are not able to visit the temple and take advantage of the temple’s vibrant spiritual atmosphere and spiritual association can also have the same benefit by invoking the same into their homes through the gate way of “SATSANG”.As it is said in Padma Purana by Lord Krishna Himself:

  • Nähaà tiñöhämi vaikuëöhe
  • yoginäà hådayeñu vä
  • tatra tiñöhämi närada
  • yatra gäyanti mad-bhaktäù
Translation:

“I am not in Vaikuëöha nor in the hearts of the yogés. I remain where My devotees engage in glorifying My activities.”

Holding such programmes at home brings peace of mind and relieves one from stress and anxiety. We will be able to experience real satisfaction and joy and liberate us from the bonds of karma. We will learn how to positively deal will all problems of life. Ultimately it helps one promote oneself back home, Back to Godhead and put an end to all sufferings of this world.
